As of March, 2004, only one U.S. adoption agency has been selected and licensed by the Marshallese government to facilitate international adoptions between the Marshall Islands (RMI) and the United States: Journeys of the Heart Adoption Services. (Adoption Act of 2002, P.L. 2002-64). In 2008, U.S. citizens adopted approximately 6 children from the Marshall Islands.
