Marshall Islands (RMI) Adoption

As of March, 2004, only one U.S. adoption agency has been selected and licensed by the Marshallese government to facilitate international adoptions between the Marshall Islands (RMI) and the United States: Journeys of the Heart Adoption Services. (Adoption Act of 2002, P.L. 2002-64). In 2010, U.S. citizens adopted approximately 19 children from the Marshall Islands.

Travel required: Yes; both travel initially and one parent must remain to complete the procedures, approx. 3 weeks.
Convention Country?: No
Singles accepted: Women on a case-by-case basis.
Other: By law, all adoptions are open adoptions with ongoing contact between the birth family and the child.
